SNAP-8

SNAP-8 is an octapeptide (8 amino acid sequence) that functions as a competitive inhibitor of the SNARE (Soluble NSF Attachment Protein Receptor) complex — the molecular machinery that enables the fusion of synaptic vesicles with the nerve cell membrane to release acetylcholine.

Mechanism: Targeted Muscle Relaxation

When acetylcholine release at the neuromuscular junction is reduced, the facial muscles that create expression lines (corrugator, orbicularis oculi, frontalis) contract less forcefully. The result is a reduction in the mechanical stress that creates and deepens wrinkles — particularly forehead lines, crow's feet, and glabellar lines.

Unlike Botulinum toxin (Botox), SNAP-8 works by a reversible competitive inhibition mechanism — it competes with SNAP-25 for the SNARE complex rather than permanently cleaving it. This makes it safer for topical and low-dose use.
